Jack Quinlan Dead at 73

Lifetime Blairite Died Last Friday: Rites At Catholic Church

John (Jack) Quinlan, 73 native Blairite and lifetime resident of Blair and vicinity died Friday at his home in the Many district south of Blair.

In failing health several years, Mr. Quinlan had been bedfast the past few months. He was at the Blair Convalescent Home for a time.

The body was brought to the Campbell Mortuary, where the rosary was recited Sunday night. Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, the Rev. Edward O’Donnell officiating. Interment followed in Holy Cross Cemetery here.

Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Quinlan, who came to Blair in pioneer days from Ireland, Mr. Quinlan was born here Sept. 6, 1875. He attended the Blair schools.

Mr. Quinlan and Catherine Curran, who had come here from Ireland, were married 40 years ago and moved to the farm south of Blair, where Mr. Quinlan’s father homesteaded in 1866. The family has lived there since.

Mr. Quinlan is survived by his wife, Catherine; and one son, Patrick, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Henry Lammers, Jr., (Elizabeth) of Blair, Mrs. Paul Bausch (Mary) and Miss Edith Quinlan, both of Omaha; and four sisters, Mrs. Louis Grimm (Lizzie) and Mrs. Margaret Mehrens, both of Blair, Mrs. Mary Sinnott of Omaha and Mrs. Harry Tucker (Edna) of Long Beach, Calif.

Preceding Mr. Quinlan in death was a son. Two brothers, William and Thomas Quinlan, also died in recent years.

John Quinlan, a native of Blair, passed away at his home south of Blair on Good Friday, April 15. Funeral rites were held Monday, April 18, from the St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church with Rev. Edward O’Donnell officiating, and interment by the Campbell Mortuary.

Deceased was born in Blair on September 6, 1875, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Quinlan. He was educated in the Blair schools. About 40 years ago he started farming.

He was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Curran and to them five children were born, one son preceding him in death.

He is survived by his widow, one son, Patrick; three daughters, Edith of Omaha; Mrs. Henry Lammers of Blair and Mrs. P. Bausch of Omaha and four sisters, Mrs. Louis Grimm and Mrs. Margaret Mehrens of Blair; Mrs. Mary Sinnott of Omaha and Mrs. Harry Tucker of Long Beach.

John Quinlan came of a family of the earliest settlers. He was of the pioneer stock and was a man of keen mind and a friend worthy of the name. His passing marks another loss of those early settlers.
