J. Vincent Miller, 86

J. Vincent Miller, 86, of Fort Calhoun, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, after a long battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at St. Richard’s Church in Omaha. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 .m. Tuesday at Roeder Mortuary, 2727 N. 108th St., Omaha, with a rosary at 7 p.m. at St. Richard’s Church in Omaha.

J. Vincent Miller was born April 30, 1916, in Prescott, Iowa, to William and Gertrude Miller.

He came to Omaha during the Great Depression to find work. He worked at Henshaw’s Cafeteria and later, at Harket’s Restaurant.

In 1937, he married Ruby Madsen.

Mr. Miller started a chain of restaurants called The Koffee House. At one time, there were six of the restaurants, including one in Fort Calhoun. He was a former president of the Omaha Restaurant Association.

His hobby was raising registered Polled Herefords on his farm near Fort Calhoun. Almost every cattle rancher in Easter Nebraska and western Iowa bought a bull from Mr. Miller at one time or another. He was a former president of the Polled Hereford Association. The farm is currently being operated by his sons.

He is survived by his second wife, Wanda; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Darlene Miller, James and Melissa Miller, all of Fort Calhoun, Daniel and Melanie Miller of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Robert Decker of Omaha; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ruby Miller; a brother, Bernard Miller, and a sister, Rita Miller.

Roeder Mortuary in Omaha is in charge of arrangements.
