Jo. C. Neal Is Dead Stricken With Paralysis

Died This Morning At His Home In Kennard

A telephone message from Kennard this forenoon announces the death of Jo. C. Neal at his home there this morning. Our informant says that he had a paralytic stroke last night from which he did not rally. He was one of the best known and best liked men in Kennard, was cashier of the Home State bank there, and an extensive dealer in and shipper of live-stock for a number of years, and foremost in every enterprise that benefited town and country. He leaves a wife, formerly Miss Gertie Blaco, daughter of the late Richard Blaco and a little boy five years of age.

Pilot 3 Jan 1917

The passing of J. C. Neal was a great shock to all our people, his death occurring Friday a.m. at 10:30, after just a short illness. Mr. Neal has been for many years of the foremost business men of the town and for several years was mayor, at the time of his death he was a member of the school board. For the past several months he has been cashier of the Home State Bank. He leaves his wife and only son to mourn for him besides some sisters and a brother in Virginia. Joseph Calloway Neal was born at Vestal, Washington Co. Va., Dec. 19, 1874. He came to Kennard about 20 years ago and was married to Gertrude Blaco Oct. 24th, 1906. A son was born to this union March 8, 1912. For the past 16 years he has been a member of the Masonic lodge and the M.W.A. for eight years. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock being in charge of the Masons. While the funeral was private a number of auto loads followed the remains to the cemetery thus showing respect and sympathy to Mrs. Neal.

There is an additional obituary published in the Tribune January 3, 1917. It does not have any additional information.
