John S. Derry, 77, of Omaha died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at Alegent Health Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.

Private graveside services were held March 5 in St. Joseph Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Killion, pastor of Benson Presbyterian Church, officiating.

John S. Derry was born Jan. 3, 1924 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to William and Gladys (Bryan) Derry. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs in 1943 and served in the U. S. Army during World War II.

He lived in Blair from 1965 to 1994, lived in Bellevue for two years, then moved to Council Bluffs.

Mr. Derry was a grocery store supervisor and manager for Bakers, Harold’s (now No Frills) and Save More in Tekamah. He was a member of the Lions Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3304 in Tekamah, and the Eagles Club in Blair.

Mr. Derry and his wife, Patrina (Ferrarello) were married 53 years.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Connie Derry and Cindy Derry, both of Omaha; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Greg and Scott, both of Omaha, and John and Laurel Derry of Blair; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lela Coomer of Las Vegas and Winona and Steve O’Bradovich of Council Bluffs, and five grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the World War II Memorial Fund in Washington, D. C.

Belford-O’Neill Funeral Home in Council Bluffs was in charge of arrangements.
