William H. Minchow, 70

Longtime Nebraska educator William H. Minchow, 70, died Monday June 21, 2004, after a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday, June 25, at Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street, Lincoln. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 24, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bill Minchow was born March 20, 1934, in Denton to Walter and Clara (Slater) Minchow. He attended school in Waverly. After graduating from Nebraska Wesleyan University, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a school administrator in Arlington, as well as Palmyra, Beaver City, Oxford, and Butte. He also served as supervisor of staff and teacher development for ESU No. 2 in Fremont. His innovative style and ideas influenced many former teachers and students.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of South Bend; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Cheri of South Bend, and Matt and Margaret of Cedar Creek; six grandchildren and their families; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Marty; sisters-in-law, Vivian and Barbara Minchow, and Marge Davenport, all of Lincoln; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Walter Jr. and Donald.

Memorials are suggested to the William H. Minchow Educational Scholarship Fund, c/o Roper and Sons Funeral Services.
