Opal B. Mintken, 73

Services were Wednesday, June 26 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah for Opal B. Mintken, 73 of Herman who died June 24, 1991 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. Rev. David Nystrom officiated. Burial was at the Herman Cemetery.

Opal B. Mintken was born September 3, 1917 in South Dakota to Fredrick and Winnie Schade. They moved to Madison, Nebraska where she graduated from Madison High School.

She taught school until she went into the Navy in 1943. She served in the Navy until 1945.

She then returned to Madison and taught school until she married LaVern Mintken June 17, 1951 at Madison. They moved to Herman in 1960.

She later graduated from Dana College at Blair.

She was a member of the Memorial Community Hospital Auxiliary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Max Schade and a sister, Esther Claus.

She is survived by her husband, LaVern of Herman; a daughter, Jean Ray of Eldora, Iowa; a son, Jim of Blair; six grandchildren, Melissa, Michael, Megan, Casey, Lexie and Korby; four sisters, Emma Schade of Worthington, Minnesota; Elizann Evans of McGrath, Minnesota; Bertha Heavican of Omaha and Jo Volk of Omaha; and four brothers, Elmer Schade of Madison; Fredrick of Battle Creek; John of Benkelman and Robert of Frazee Minnesota.

Hamel & Peck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for the services.
