Brother Of Mayor Sick Dies After Lengthy Illness

Services for Nebraska insurance executive Theodore A. Sick will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Plymouth Congregational Church in Lincoln.

Sick, 80, died Tuesday at a Lincoln hospital of a kidney ailment and other complications, according to his widow, Mary. He had been ill about four years.

Among honors Sick received was the University of Nebraska Builder Award in 1970, in recognition of his contributions to higher education, leadership in the University of Nebraska Foundation and service to the insurance industry.

He was chairman of the board of Security Mutual Life Insurance Co., starting as a clerk with the firm in 1917.

A native of Fontanelle, Neb., Sick was president of the Junior and Senior Chambers of Commerce in Lincoln and the Lincoln Community Chest. He served on advisory boards in real estate, water and power, and was one of the original incorporators of the Lincoln Foundation Inc.

He was a trustee of the Cooper Foundation, trustee and board chairman of the NU Foundation, a board member of the Downtown Development Corp and director of the First Continental National Bank and Trust co.

He was president of the American Life Convention and the Life Insurance Association of America and also held state offices in industry organizations.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sandra Thompson of Bellevue; brother Mayor Alfred O. Sick of Blair, sisters Mary Ann Sick of Fremont and Emma Gardiner of Lincoln and three grandchildren.

Burial is to be in Lincoln Memorial Park.
