Alfred Sick, Jr

Alfred Sick Jr. 61, of 1930 E. 19th Street, died of a heart attack Thursday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Omaha.

Mr. Sick was born June 9, 1924, in Fremont and grew up on a farm near Hooper. He graduated from Hooper High School in 1941 and from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Agricultural College in 1950.

Mr. Sick was a radio gunner on a heavy bomber in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and served from February 1943 to September 1945. He was shot down over Germany in March 1945 and taken prisoner of war. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

On October 3, 1947, he married the former Alberta A Hurt in Hooper. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, David of Waverly, Iowa, and Steve of Fremont; a sister, Mrs. Don (Maralee) Jensen of Blair; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services were Saturday at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Dr. J.W. Berry officiated.

Burial was in the Memorial Cemetery, and military graveside services were conducted by Hooper American Legion Post 18.

Memorials may be given to the Nebraska Vocational Agricultural Memorial Scholarship Fund or Salem Evangelical Church.
