Wayne D. Misfeldt Died Suddenly Last Saturday

Wayne D. Misfeldt, well known Blair man who had lived here his entire life, died suddenly last Saturday, April 14th. Death was attributed to an apparent heart attack. He had been in good health and had no previous knowledge of a heart problem.

Wayne had been associated with the Nebraska-Iowa Supply Company for many years where he had handled a territory as an auto parts salesman.

He had been interested in a number of civic affairs and had shown a special interest in the work of the Blair Rescue Squad. He was Assistant Captain of the Blair Rescue Unit as well as being a member of the Blair Fire Department.

He was a past president of the Missouri Valley Rescue Association, an organization which had devoted much time to the formation of rescue units in towns of the area. He had also carried on and directed frequent training sessions for squads being newly formed.

At the time of his death he was Co-Chairman of the Convention Committee of the International Rescue Association and was active in making arrangements for the association’s annual convention which is to be held in Omaha in August. Only a few hours before his death Saturday he had been attending a meeting in Irvington relevant to arrangements for the convention.

Wayne Dierks Misfeldt was born at Blair, July 28th, 1926 and was 46 years of age at the time of his death. As a boy, the family lived on a farm near Kennard.

He entered military service in World War II on October 27,1944 and served until the close of hostilities. He left the service on February 20, 1946. He served in the Pacific theatre.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War.

On April 16, 1950 he was married to Elda Behrendt at Zion Lutheran Church of Benson, Nebraska. His wife survives his death.

Also surviving are four children. A son, Martin Wayne Misfeldt, and three daughters. The daughters are Merri, Patricia and Kathleen. All are at home except Kathleen who is attending school at Sioux City.

A sister, Mrs. Vern Johnson (Violet) lives at Dresser, Wisconsin. A brother Willard lives at Waterloo, Nebraska.

Funeral services were held at the First Lutheran Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Robert Albers conducting the service. Burial was made in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home of Blair. Members of the VFW conducted graveside services.

Pallbearers were Gene Baumert, Don Feer, Dale Stricklett, Lester Goodwin, Robert Plugge and William Plugge.
