Robert L. Plugge, 77

Robert L. Plugge, 77, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at his home in Arlington. Graveside services were Monday, Nov. 1, at the Kennard Cemetery. Military honors were conducted by members of American Legion Post 71 and VFW Post 8332, both of Arlington.

Robert L. Plugge was born Dec. 18, 1932, in Blair to Albert and Wilma (Uterman) Plugge. He grew up in rural Arlington.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from March 25, 1953, to March 25, 1955. He moved to Omaha in 1956 and drove a taxi, then owned and operated a gas station and later was employed at Roberts Dairy.

He married Gladys Clement in 1957 at Falls City.

He returned to Arlington in 1963, and operated the mill for Ron Rhea Co., then worked for Westinghouse Corporation as a nuclear power plant parts repairman. He retired in 1996. The next year, Mr. and Mrs. Plugge started Shady Acres Iris Garden.

Mr. Plugge was a member of the American Iris Society.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Shelby and Nancy Miller of Fremont and Michael Plugge of Newman Grove; daughters and son-in-law, Judy Miller of Fremont, Patty Miller, and Dawn and Michael Willis, all of Omaha, and Shirley Debrow of San Antonio, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, in 2008; a daughter, Ramona Sobczak; daughter-in-law, Tyna Plugge; brother, Jack Plugge; three grandchildren, Carla Miller, Angela Sobczak, and Dominique Debrow; great-granddaughter, Christy Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to the Arlington Fire and Rescue Department.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
