Ronald Modlin, 69

Ronald McKinley Modlin, 69, of Tekamah died on Wednesday evening, August 19, 1987, at Memorial Community Hospital, Blair, after a brief illness.

He was born May 11, 1918, at Walthill to Thomas and Annie (Churches) Modlin.

He spent most of his life around Tekamah, except while serving in the U.S. Army in World War II as a Lineman stationed in Germany and during a period of time where he lived in Fremont.

Modlin worked at Transit Mills in Fremont prior to moving back to Tekamah in 1967, at which time he joined Ralph Kohler as a partner in Kohler’s Welding and Machine Shop.

He also worked at the Burt County Co-Op and Lee Valley Farm Equipment seasonally.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3304 of Tekamah.

Survivors include his beloved friend, Ria Hovendick of Tekamah; six daughters: Alice Hines of Palm Bay, Florida, Shirley Schutt of Linwood; Deloris Dryden of Cedar Bluffs; Ethel Stack of Dayton, Iowa; Evelyn Fletcher of Fremont, and Susan Tobin of Tekamah; one son, Ray Modlin of Fremont; four sisters: Alvina Kjeldgaard of Canyon City, Colorado, Lorraine Piper of Lincoln, Lillian Hensley of Pleasant Valley, Iowa, and Marge Rasmussen of Johnson; three brothers: Thomas Modlin of Yankton, South Dakota, Herb Modlin of Slayton, Minnesota, and Clarence Modlin of Jefferson, South Dakota; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son (Richard Modlin), one brother (Lonsdale Modlin) and one grandson.

Funeral services were held Saturday August 22, 1987, at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah with Rev. Thomas E. Robson officiating.

A family Cremation Committal followed at a later date.

Arrangements were handled by Hamel & Peck Funeral Home in Tekamah.
