Wayne E. Modlin

Wayne E. Modlin, 72, of Bellevue and a former Tekamah resident, died on Saturday morning, March 21, 1987, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Omaha after a lengthy illness.

He was born on March 4, 1915, at Tekamah, and lived in Omaha and Bellevue nearly all his life.

He was married to Gladys Laursen on January 21, 1941, at Tekamah.

Prior to his retirement, Modlin was a Foreman with the Yankee Hill Brick & Tile Company in Omaha.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having served in the 820th Tank destroyer Unite.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys, of Bellevue; four sons: James Modlin of Omaha, Jerry Modlin (with the U.S.A.F. stationed in Japan), Raymond Modlin of Council Bluffs and Larry Modlin of Bellevue; one daughter, Joyce Kallhoff of O’Neill; one brother, Adolph Modlin of South Sioux City; and one sister, Malay Sheets of Tekamah; twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Clara (Jacobs) Modlin and one daughter, Roselyn Kay, in 1969.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday March 25, 1987, at the Hamel & Peck Funeral Chapel in Tekamah; Rev. Marion H. Knoell officiated.

Interment was in the Tekamah Cemetery with military graveside honors conducted by Tekamah V.F.W. Post No. 3304.

Arrangements were made by Hamel & Peck Funeral Home in Tekamah.
