Former Washington County resident Marie G. Moeller, 97, of Onawa, Iowa, died Jan. 7, 2005, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, Iowa.

Funeral services were Jan. 11 at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont, with interment in the Elk City Cemetery.

Marie Georgia (Shumaker) Moeller was born Jan. 4, 1908 on the family farm near Elk City to C. V. and Belle Shumaker. She graduated from the 10th grade at Elk City and from 12th grade in Fremont before attending Midland Lutheran College.

She taught in School District 41 near Elk City for a year before her marriage Aug. 3, 1927 to Hans Moeller in her home in Washington. They then moved to the Moeller farm near Elk City where they lived until their retirement in 1953.

The Moellers enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and traveling. Mrs. Moeller was a proud member of the Fremont DAR for many years. She was a member of the Methodist Church and its Ladies Aid in Elk City, and was a member of the Royal Neighbors.

After the death of her husband in 1994, Mrs. Moeller continued living in Fremont. She later moved to Whiting, Iowa, to be closer to her family, and then to Onawa, Iowa, to be near her daughter. In April of 2002, she fell and was hospitalized. Since that time, she has been residing in the Pleasant View Nursing Home or Assisted Living in Whiting.

Mrs. Moeller loved to crochet, knit and read. She made lots of sweaters, vests and afghans for her family.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Georgia and Henry Lamprecht of Onawa; son and daughter-in-law, James and Nancy Moeller of Phoenix, Ariz., four grandchildren and their spouses; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Memorials are suggested to the Elk City Cemetery.
