Irma C. Moen, 90

Irma C. Moen, 90, of Blair, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006 at Good Shepherd Village in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Omaha. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery in Omaha.

Irma Charlotte Mortensen was born Easter Sunday morning, April 23, 1916 to John Walter and Alma Mathilde (Wiig) Mortensen. She was baptized June 18, 1916, and confirmed April 13, 1930.

On June 12, 1938, she married Walter Christian Schmidt of Dalton in a double wedding ceremony with her sister and brother-in-law, Arleen and Karl Gigstad.

Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt were very active in the churches they attended, with Walt singing solos, directing the choir, and leading Bible studies as Mrs. Schmidt praised God with the marimba, piano and organ music.

Mrs. Schmidt died in an automobile accident in 1958. On Oct. 16, 1960, she married Cyrus G. Moen. The couple enjoyed traveling the country until he died in 1989.

Mrs. Moen had three loves in her life: her faith in Almighty God and his wondrous love for her; her family; and her music. She raised her family to love God and music. Playing her marimba brought her much joy, especially the religious music praising her Lord and Saviour. She also taught music lessons in her home and at the Hospe’s Music Store, sharing the gifts God had given her with others.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Myrna and Dick Vercruysee of Blair and Janet Wilkenson of Wichita, Kan.; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald Schmidt and Diane Binder of Sea of Cortes, Mexico, and Daniel and Susan Schmidt of Hastings; stepchildren, Thomas Moen Sr. of McAlester, Okla., Janice Kruse of Omaha, and Dennis and Carol Moen of Las Vegas, Nev.; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elda Schmidt of Loveland, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Walter Christian Schmidt Jr., and her sister, Arleen Gigstad.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Mt. Calvary Lutheran School Scholarship Fund, 5529 Leavenworth Street, Omaha, NE 68106.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
