#1-20 Dec., 1922 - The Pilot

Mrs. Mary Moffit, mother of Mrs. Clarence McCormick of this city, died at the home of her son, James who lives near Herman, Monday morning, and the funeral is to be held at the Methodist church tomorrow, Thursday, at the Methodist church in Herman. She would have been 72 years of age the 27th of February. Her husband died a good many years ago. She was the mother of thirteen children, eleven of whom are living.

Mrs. Clarence McCormick’s mother, Mrs. Mary Moffatt, died at the home of her son, James, near Herman last Monday and funeral services were held today at the Herman Methodist church. She was past 71 years of age and leaves eleven children. Mrs. McCormick has been up to Herman caring for her and was badly burned by hot water boiling over.

Mary Frances Thompson was born in North Carolina February 27, 1850. She moved with her parents to Indiana while she was yet young. She was married to Samuel Jackson Moffitt, and to this union were born thirteen children; two, Oscar and Ida preceded their mother in death. There remains to mourn her departure Thomas Moffitt of Dallas, S.D.; Mrs. Susan Hansen of Big Springs, Neb.; Frank Moffitt of Omaha, Nebr.; Mrs. Anna Cole of Armour, S.D.; Lim Moffit of Dallas, S.D.; Jim Moffitt of Herman; Mrs. Wm. Bennett of Colone, S.D.; Mrs. Leona McCormick of Blair, Neb.; Mr. Charles Moffitt of Oakland, California; Mr. Fred Moffitt of Canada and Edward Moffitt of Spencer, Neb.; and many other relatives and a host of friends. She has 64 grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She died Monday, December 18, 1922, at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 19 days. She joined the Baptist church when she was young and held this faith until her death.
