Charles A. Mohr Passed Away October 3, 1974

Charles Andreas Mohr was born October 23, 1898 to John and Christena Kniep Mohr, on a farm near Kennard, Nebraska. Charles was baptized November 23, 1901. He confirmed his faith on Palm Sunday, March 28, 1915 in St. John’s Lutheran Church of Bennington and was an active communing member there since that time.

In 1904 he moved with his parents to a farm in northern Douglas County. He attended Wranch School in Washington County and District 63 in Douglas County. He was united in marriage to Anna Schneekloth in 1924. They made their home on the farm. Three sons and one daughter blessed their marriage. Along with farming, Charles was employed with the Douglas County Road Department and also later with Peter Kiewit and Sons.

In 1953, Charles, Anna and Lois moved to Bennington where he continued with his carpenter work. For the past ten years, Charles dedicated his time to service for his family and community – work he performed with great pride and joy. He will be remembered as an industrious, persistent person, a handy man always ready to repair anything and everything – a man who didn’t easily give up to adversity or give in to misfortune.

It was during his first year in town that Charles joined the Bennington Volunteer Fire Department. He was awarded honorary membership of this group in 1973. He also belonged to the Farm Bureau for over 20 years. In June, Charles and Anna celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

As a result of a fall in his home, Charles was admitted to the Blair Hospital, where he passed away on October 3, 1974, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 10 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one grandchild.

Survivors include his widow, Anna; three sons, Glen and Lyle of rural Omaha and Dale of Bennington; one sister, Edna Mohr of Bennington; 12 grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Services were held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Monday, October 7 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Norman Schroeder officiating. Mrs. Henry Kniep was the organist.

Pallbearers were Lorin and Marlin Cohrs, Roland Huff, David and Ronald Muller and Darrell Schneekloth. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Volunteer Fire Department. Interment was in the German Cemetery. Hadan-Golden Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
