Carl Winfred Watts, 92, of North Bend, died Saturday, July 19, 2014, in North Bend.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 25, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Carl Winfred Watts was born Nov. 25, 1921, to Pleasant Hopkins and Callie Mae (Amos) Watts on a farmstead near Burchard.

He graduated from Blair High School in 1939.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from August 1940 to November 1945. He had a variety of jobs from technical sergeant aircraft mechanic to eventually a second lieutenant flight engineer instructor for the B-24 bomber. After his honorable discharge from active duty, Mr. Watts moved to Blair and started his career in construction, first as an independent contractor and then later went to work for Hagan and Son Construction Company in Omaha, where he worked for many years. Through the course of his career, he worked on numerous apartments, warehouses, churches and anything else that required the skills of a professional brick mason.

He was a member of the Bricklayer’s Union Local 1 of Omaha for more than 65 years. He continued to work with concrete until almost the day he passed.

He spent his retirement years enjoying gardening and building anything he could think of.

Mr. Watts was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blair for more than 50 years.

He is survived by a daughter, Linda Miller of Goose Creek, S.C.; son Dan (Connie) Watts of North Bend; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister Lilly Roerick of Blair.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Donnie Merle (Roberts) Watts; son James Steven Watts; and special companion Rachel Epperson.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans.
