Services For Alta Nelson Were On Saturday

Funeral services for 76 year old Alta Marie Nelson were held on Saturday, June 16, 1969 at the Campbell Funeral Home in Blair. Rev. Alan Campbell officiated with burial in the Blair Cemetery.

Alta Nelson died at the St. Benedict’s Hospital at Ogden, Utah on June 12, 1979. She lived at the home of a niece there since November, 1978.

Alta Marie Nelson was born on the family farm south of Blair to C. John and Martha Elizibeth Sutton Nelson on November 16, 1902. She was the youngest of four children. Sister, Addie Hopkins, and brothers, George Nelson and Albae Nelson, all preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Blair High School, attended Wayne State Teachers College and the University of Nebraska School of Nursing, receiving her degree from the University.

She taught school at many of the “country schools” of the past, starting right out of high school. She changed her career to nursing in the early “30’s” working at University Hospital in Omaha before moving to Fremont where she worked first in the Dodge County Hospital and then for Dr. H.H. Morrow, remaining there for many years until her retirement in the mid ‘70’s.

She is survived by six nieces, Mrs. Evelyn (Gardol) Frain, Manteca, California; Mrs. Gwen (Alfred) Hart, Ogden, Utah, Mrs. Audrey (John) Windolph, Wyoming; Mrs. Judy (J.) Peterson, Washington; Mrs. Joan Nelson, Wester, Nebraska; Miss Carol Nelson, San Diego, California; one nephew, Keith Nelson, on the home place near Blair, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Jennie Nelson, Blair and a cousin, Emory Schrieber, Sacramento, California.

Pallbearers were; Garold Frain, Alfred Hart, Ted Knoell, Dr. A.J. Merrick, Allan Nelson and Keith Nelson. Honorary Pallbearers were: Dr. H.H. Morrow and Russell Fink.
