Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 21, at Palmquist Funeral Home in Oakland, Nebraska for Arthur A. Nelson, 97 years of age, with Pastor Dan Hauge of Country Bible Church officiating.

He passed away Saturday June 18 at the Arlington* Memorial Community Hospital due to complications following surgery 3 week earlier.

He was born May 9, 1891 at Oakland, Nebraska to Peter N. and Ida (Gustafson) Nelson. He was the youngest of 7 children. He was baptized and confirmed and a long time member of First Covenant Church of Oakland.

He grew up in the Oakland community where he attended school and later attended business college in both Omaha and Lincoln.

On January 30, 1915 he married Alida Bordson. To this union was born 2 daughters and 1 son.

He farmed most of his life in the Oakland and Craig area. After retiring in 1971 they moved to Fremont.

After the passing of his wife August 21, 1978, he moved to Blair, and resided at Parkview Manor where he lived until he entered Good Shepherd Home in December 1986.

He was preceded in death by his infant son Merl, his wife, Alida, his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

He leaves to mourn two daughters, Doris, (Mrs. Harry Nelson) of Bingham Lake, Minnesota and Helen Gosker of Blair, 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Music was furnished by Marilee Nelson, organist, and Doug Sandquist, solist.

*Arlington does not have a hospital, probably should say Blair

Serving as pallbearers were Lester (Gus) Nelson, Merlin W. Nelson, Ellert Sandquist, Raymond Sandquist, Warren Nelson and Dan Nelson.

Palmquist Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
