Services Saturday for Denton Nelson of Fort Calhoun

Services will be held this Saturday at 11:30 for Denton W. Nelson of Fort Calhoun. He died July 6, 1988. Services will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Fort Calhoun with interment to follow in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery. Rev. Gregory Reid will officiate.

Nelson was born in Wolbach, NE on August 30, 1926 to Emmet and Myrtle (Sowers) Nelson. He attended school in Omaha and Fort Calhoun. He serviced in the Navy during World War II. He returned to Fort Calhoun after the service.

On November 23, 1949, he married Caryl Berney at St. Paul.

He worked as a rural mail carrier for 29 years. He retired from the Tekamah post office in June of this year due to illness.

Survivors include his wife Caryl; children Sheila Gerdes, of Millard; Michael of Fremont; Patrick of Fremont; and Debra Schurevich, of Fremont.

Also surviving are four brothers Charles, Larry, and Vinton, all of Ft. Calhoun; Loren of Omaha; and five sisters, Dorothy Wagner, Turlock, CA; Bernetta Goodrich, Lander, WY; Leona Campbell, Omaha; Geraldine Taylor, Fremont; and Viora Nelson, of Blair.

Fourteen grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harley, and a sister, Darlene.

Military honors will be rendered by the Fort Calhoun American Legion and VFW.
