Lyle C. Mohr, 76

Lyle C. Mohr, 76, of rural Omaha, died June 30, 2005.

Lyle Charles Mohr was born Aug. 5, 1928, at home near rural Bennington to Charles and Anna (Schneekloth) Mohr. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington.

He graduated from Bennington High school in May 1945, the same day he planted corn for the first time – he would plant it every year for six decades.

During the Korean War, from March 1951 to March 1953, he served in the United States Army as an engineer, operating a rock crusher.

On April 25, 1953, he married Betty Eipperle. The couple bought 40 acres of bare land in rural Douglas County. Side by side, over the years, the couple built a beautiful home and a remarkable registered Holstein dairy farm.

Mr. Mohr was a steadfast worker, planting hundreds of trees, a variety of fruit trees, pines and shrubs. He treasured his grandchildren and loved to have them at the farm. He loved food and to have family get-togethers. He was mild mannered, had a wonderful sense of humor and was quick-witted. His family notes that “Lyle said in his life, he never had to ask the Lord for anything…the Lord blessed him and all he had to do was thank the Lord for all of his blessings.”

He is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Tyler, of Omaha; daughters and sons-in-law, Shawn and Bill Melotz and Tracy and Craig Behnken, all of Omaha, and Beth and Troy Wakefield of Blair; five grandchildren; brother, Glen Mohr of Omaha; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Ila Mohr of Bennington; sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Richard Musel of Bennington; many more family members including brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nephews, nieces and many dear friends.
