#1 Hans Mommsen, 64

Hans E. Mommsen was born September 29, 1927, at Gretna and died September 7, 1992, at his home in Waterloo at the age of 64.

Hans was graduated from Fort Calhoun High School in 1945.

He married Eleanor Lorsch October 9, 1948. They farmed in the Washington County area until 1955 when they moved to Waterloo. He farmed south of Waterloo until 1988, retiring because of illness.

He was a charter member of Faith United Methodist Church in Waterloo, served on the Waterloo Village Board for several years, and was a member of the Waterloo Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years.

Hans was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher and Emma Mommsen, step-father Andrew Mommsen, brother Gerhard and an infant nephew, Edward Andrew.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; son Norman and wife Kazuko of Ames; son Warren and wife Pat of Yutan; four granddaughters; brother Edward and wife Shirley of Omaha; sister Evelyn and husband Phillip R. Lacey of Omaha; sister Christel and husband Kenneth Chapman of Lincoln; sister-in-law Irene Mommsen of Atkinson; step-mother Dora Mommsen of Ft. Calhoun; aunt Maria Jessen of Cedar Bluffs; two aunts, Hermine Boyens and Sophie Bockhoff, of Germany, along with other relatives there, and nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Services were held September 10, 1992, at Faith United Methodist Church in Waterloo. Interment was at Union Cemetery, Cedar Bluffs.

Honorary bearers were Ronald Denker, Kenneth Headley, Glen Lund Sr., George Villwok and members of the waterloo Volunteer Fire Department and retired Waterloo firemen.

Pallbearers were Larry Bohlen, Larry Brostad, Larry Headley, Glen Lund Jr., Kent Merryweather and Jerry Moore.

Reichmuth Funeral Home, Valley, handled arrangements.
