The memorial service will be held July 15 for Laura Marie Beck Nyegaard of Eugene, who died July 11 of age-related causes. She was 95.

She was born Sept. 2, 1901, in Blair, Neb., to Anders and Anna Beck. She married the Rev. Kaj Nyegaard in Blair on Aug. 4, 1921. He died Aug. 2, 1976.

Nyegaard graduated from Blair High School and worked as a judge’s secretary in Blair. She later worked at the Miller-Paine department store in Lincoln, Neb., and for Miles-Kimball in Oshkosh, Wis.

As a pastor’s wife, she was an organist, choir director and Sunday school teacher. She served several congregations in the Midwest, as well as Emmaus Lutheran Church in Eugene from 1937 to 1947. She worked for the state of Oregon from 1958 to 1971.

Nyegaard enjoyed needlework, books on tape, crossword puzzles, Scrabble and playing piano. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Eugene. Her family remembers her wonderful laugh, and she was included in the Grandmother Hall of Fame.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Nyegaard Grenfell of Eugene; a son, Allan of Eugene; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Tuesday’s service will be at 2 p.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the talking book fund in care of the Oregon State Library. Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
