Deles “Dee” Jordan, 92, of Blair, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at the home of Jim and Karen Jordan. Private family services will be held with interment in the Blair Cemetery.

Dee was born September 7, 1922, in Center Ridge, Ark. He was one of 10 children born to Linda Ann and Andrew Jackson Jordan.

The Great Depression put an end to all of his education. Working as a cotton picker plus finding food became his top priorities. Dee joined the CCC’s at the age of 17, lying about his age to get in. The money he sent home was desperately needed to help his family back in Arkansas.

Dee went from the C’s directly into the Navy and later the Naval Air Force. He was a bombardier gunner, flying 51 missions during World War II. He told many stories about his naval years and the travels that took him all over the world.

In 1950, he met his wife, Hazel Clark, at a USO dance in Dayton, Ohio. They married in June of 1950 and lived in Dayton until 1996 at which time they then moved to Blair.

Dee is preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, all his brothers and sisters and one son, Charles.

Dee is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Stephen and Doris Jordan of Hilliard, Ohio, Jim and Karen Jordan of Blair, three granddaughters, five grandsons, two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Memorial contributions can be made in Dee’s name to the Washington County Food Pantry or your local American Legion Post.

Dee was an avid storyteller, and although he has passed, his stories will continue to be told for generations to come.
