Edith H.C. Nelson, 100 of Albion, died May 15, 2007, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.

Funeral services were May 17 at Immanuel Zion Lutheran Church in rural Albion. Interment was in the parish cemetery.

Edith Henrietta Carolina Loken was born June 13, 1906, at Albion to Sever and Tilda (Hestekind) Loken. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She graduated from Albion High School in 1925. She taught school for three years, prior to her marriage to William A. “Bud” Nelson in 1929.

She taught school in rural Boone County for a total of 20 years. She attended Kearney State, Wayne State and Dana College.

She was a member of Immanuel Zion Lutheran Church in rural Albion. She taught Sunday School for 15 years, and was president of Immanuel Ladies Aid. She was also president of the Women’s Mission Federation of the Omaha Circuit of the ELC.

For many years, she served as president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No 162 of Albion, and was secretary of the Boone County Extension Service. She was also president of the Women’s Improvement Club and the Friendly Extension Club. She also served on the election board for many years.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Larrie Stone of Blair; daughter-in-law, Kathy Nelson of Albion; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Ekstrom of Albion; a brother, Oliver Loken of Albion; many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; a son, Roger; five sisters, Somalina, Selma, Viola, Ethel and Stella; and two brothers, Melbourne and Alfred Loken.
