Evelyn D. Nelson, 86, of Arlington, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Sept, 6 at the Arlington Community Church in Arlington. The Rev. Shirley Schmidt officiated. Interment was at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Evelyn D. Nelson was born on Sept. 4, 1913, to Peter and Julia (Meier) Katt. She grew up on a farm north of Arlington.

On Feb. 19, 1933, she married Leonard Nelson at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. After the couple was married, they farmed near Orum until moving into Arlington in 1937. Mrs. Nelson managed a tavern, liquor store, and café, known as Dick’s Café, and later managed Freddie’s Café in Arlington.

She was a member of the Arlington Community Church, and served on many committees in the church; she was a former member of the Over 60 Center in Arlington, the Bisbee Sewing Circle, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #200 Auxiliary at Fremont.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Ruth Nelson of Arlington; a daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Everett Kingry of Fremont; a sister and brother-in-law, Madeline and Ernest Suess of Fremont; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; three brothers, Velmar, Alvin and Gilbert Katt; a grandson, Richard Kingry; and one great-granddaughter, Nicole Kingry.

Memorials are suggested to Arlington Community Church, the Arlington Volunteer Fire Depart-ment, or the Arlington Over 60 Center. Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington was in charge of arrangements.

ARLINGTON -- Evelyn D. Nelson, 86, of Arlington died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Evelyn Katt was born Sept. 4, 1913, in rural Arlington. She married Leonard Nelson Feb. 19, 1933, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper.

After her marriage, she and her husband farmed near Orum until moving into Arlington in 1937. She managed a tavern, liquor store and café, known as Dick’s Café and later managed Freddie’s Café in Arlington. Her husband died April 15, 1983.

She was a member of Arlington Community Church, UCC, and served on many church committees.

She was a former member of the Over 60 Center at Arlington, Bisbee Sewing circle and Fraternal Order of Eagles 200 Auxiliary in Fremont.

Survivors include: a son, Larry (and wife, Ruth) Nelson of Arlington; a daughter, Arlene (Mrs. Everett) Kingry of Fremont; a sister, Madeline (Mrs. Ernest) Seuss of Fremont; seven grand-children; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Arlington Community Church with the Rev. Shirley Schmidt officiating.

Visitation will be until 9 tonight with family receiving friends 6-8 tonight and will continue 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, all at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Memorials have been established to Arlington Community Church, Arlington Volunteer Fire Department and Arlington Over 60 Center.
