The funeral for Robert E. Tegt, 88, of Fremont will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Presbyterian Church in Fremont.

Bob died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont.

He was born in Blair and raised in Fremont. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1941. He attended Midland College where he played football and then served in WW II in the Army Air Corps, piloting B-17s in Europe. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi and was a two-year letterman in football. After graduation, he was offered a contract to play baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals. Bob taught high school in Lyons and then in Lead, S. D., for two years where he also coached three sports. Bob married Kathryn Legge in Fremont on Dec. 26, 1949. He returned to Nebraska in 1951 to work in the dairy business, eventually returning to Fremont where he owned and operated Richee Dairy until his retirement in 1982.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Fremont Golf Club, VFW, and Fremont Rotary Club.

Survivors include: wife, Kathy; three sons, Robert (and wife, Kaye) Tegt of Spicer, Minn.; Thomas (and wife, Barbara) Tegt of Lincoln; and David (and wife, Cindy) Tegt of Dallas; eight granddaughters; one great-grandson; a sister, Mary Lee Tegt of Fremont; sisters-in-law, Edythe Legge of North Bend and Darlene Tegt of California.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Dr. Bill Bowers will officiate Monday’s service. Visitation will be 3 – 8 p.m. Sunday at Dugan Funeral Chapel with the family present from 6 – 8 p.m.

A memorial has been established to the Presbyterian Church.
