Bernett Monson, 95

Bernett Monson, 95, of Blair, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Kennard Cemetery.

Visitation will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Bernett Matz was born June 4, 1911, on a farm near Wisner, to Emma and Marx Matz. She attended Fremont High School, but completed her senior year at Blair High School.

On Feb. 18, 1932, she married Elmer Monson. The couple lived on a farm near Kennard and later bought the Honey B Farm, where they lived until Mr. Monson’s death. Mrs. Monson continued to live on the farm until 2003.

Mrs. Monson was always active in church work, serving as president of the Lutheran Ladies Aid in Kennard for many years, and was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Blair. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, playing cards, sports (especially Nebraska football), sewing, gardening and canning. At the age of 90, she canned 90 quarts of tomato juice.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Gordon Soderberg of Blair; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth McVey, and a brother, Gerald Matz, both of Omaha.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Lee; sisters, Mildred Bevelheimer, Ethel Finegan, and Vivian Rock; and brothers, Floyd and Ray Matz.

Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church or the American Diabetes Foundation.

Services 10:30 AM Saturday at First Lutheran Church. Burial in the Kennard Cemetery. Visitation will begin 10 AM Friday with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM.
