#1-Ident Half Century

Mrs. John Monson, 75, resident of Washington county more than half a century, died at 3:30 p.m. yesterday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Carl Bohs, after a lengthy illness. She was a former resident of the Kennard vicinity.

As Kirstine Poulsen, she was born in Alaborg, Denmark, in 1863, where she was later baptized and confirmed as a member of the Lutheran faith. She came to America when 24 years old, settling near Blair. Three years later, in 1880, she was married to John Monson. They farmed five miles west of Blair for a time, then moved to a farm two miles north of Kennard, where they remained more than 40 years. For the past year, since the death of her husband, March 8, 1937 Mrs. Monson had made her home in Blair with her daughter, Mrs. Bohs.

To Mr. and Mrs. Monson were born ten children, one son dying in infancy, another son, Albert, dying in 1933 and a daughter, Ellen, succumbing in 1916.

Surviving are four sons, Elmer Monson of Kennard, Ernest of Blair, Martin of Oakland and Carl of Outwood, Kentucky; three daughters, Mrs. Anna Andreasen of Omaha, formerly of Blair, Mrs. William Farnberg and Mrs. Carl Bohs, both of Blair; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services, it was announced last night, will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Carl Bohs residence in Blair and at 2 p.m. at the Danish Lutheran church in Kennard. Interment will follow in Kennard cemetery.

MRS. JOHN MONSON RITES FRIDAY

After a long illness, Mrs. John Monson passed away Friday afternoon at her home in Blair at the age of seventy five years.

Deceased was born in Denmark, and came to America at the age of twenty four years, settling near Blair. Three years later she was married to John Monson with whom she lived happily until his death on March 8th, 1937.

After their wedding they immediately started farming five miles west of Blair, later moving to a farm two miles north of Kennard where they lived for over forty years.

For the past year she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Carl Bohs, where she has had the best care that loving hands could give, and who in her last illness spared no pains that she might be comfortable.

Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Monson, of whom four sons and three daughters survive, Elmer of Kennard, Ernest of Blair, Martin of Oakland and Carl of Outwood, Kentucky and the three daughters, Mrs. Anna Andreasen of Omaha, Mrs. Wm. Farnberg and Mrs. Carl Bohs of Blair, also eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Too much cannot be said in tribute to Mrs. Monson’s character. Her sterling qualities will live after her in her sons and daughters, all of whom emulate her virtues in their lives.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at one o’clock from the Carl Bohs home and at two o’clock from the Lutheran church in Kennard, and interment will be made in the Kennard cemetery.
