WORLD WAR VETERAN DIES

Earl, the son of George and Anna Montgomery, was born August 31, 1888 in Burt county, Nebraska, and passed away June 29, 1938 at the age of 49 years, 10 months and 2 days at Battle Mountain sanitarium at Hot Springs, South Dakota.

At the age of 20 years he went to Tilden, Nebraska, where he lived until his enlistment for service in the World War in October, 1917. He was stationed at Camp Funston, Kansas, and later transferred to Camp Cody, New Mexico, until they were sent overseas.

He returned to Tilden after his discharge from the army and remained there until he suffered a paralytic stroke four years ago. He was sent to the Veterans hospital at Lincoln and later transferred to Hot Springs, South Dakota, where he passed away.

He leaves to mourn his passing one sister, Mrs. Huit Lowe of Herman, one brother, Roy, of Denver, Colorado; five nieces and three nephews beside other relatives and a host of friends. His father, mother, three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

The body was shipped to Herman, arriving Saturday evening, and funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o’clock at the Baptist church, Rev. A. W. Clarke of the local Methodist church officiated.

Music was furnished by a male quartette, L. D. Long, Fred Robertson, Roland Wachter and C. R. Gray with Mrs. L. V. Ackerman at the piano. Burial was made in the local cemetery.

FORMER HERMAN RESIDENT DIES

EARL MONTGOMERY, 49, WORLD WAR VETERAN, DIES IN SOUTH DAKOTA

Earle Montgomery, 49, former Herman resident, died last Wednesday at Battle Mountain sanitarium at Hot Springs, South Dakota, after a long illness. The body was brought to Herman and funeral services were held at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon, interment following in Herman cemetery.

Son of the late George and Anna Montgomery, he was born in Burt county August 31. 1888. When 20 years old he went to Tilden, Nebraska, where he resided until he enlisted for service in the World war in October, 1917. He was stationed for several months at Camp Thurston, Kansas, and later was transferred to Camp Cody, New Mexico. From there he was sent overseas.

Returning to Tilden after the war, he resided there until stricken with paralysis four years ago. He spent considerable time at the Veterans' hospital in Lincoln before being moved to the Hot Springs sanitarium.

Surviving Mr. Montgomery are a sister, Mrs. Huit Lowe of Herman; a brother, Roy Montgomery of Denver; five nieces and three nephews. His mother, father, three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.

Pall-bearers at the Herman funeral were Carroll Lowe, Lester Schneider, Claude Clements, Freeman Loftis, Chester Hovendick and Wilbur Lowe.
