MAXINE E. THIES, 72

Services for Maxine E. Thies, 72 who died at the Nemaha County Hospital May 12, 1995 in Auburn were Monday, May 15 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Johnson, Nebraska. Rev. Everett Brailey officiated. Burial was in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Maxine Eunice Harms, daughter of Herman G. and Louise Lunzmann Harms was born February 21, 1923 on a farm west of Auburn, Nebraska. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in 1937 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church by Rev. E. C. Hansen.

She received her education at Auburn Public Schools and graduated from Auburn High School in 1940.

She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Johnson. She was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 23 Auxiliary in Auburn.

She married Adolph Thies at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church June 11, 1943. They made their home on a farm near Auburn until 1960 when they moved to Fort Calhoun. She moved back to Auburn in September of 1987.

She was preceded in death by her husband on March 6, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Harold and one sister, Alvera.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Jeanie of North Platte, Nebraska; a daughter, Sharon Rose of Lincoln, Nebraska; a brother, Vernon Harms of state of Washington; three sisters, Eleanor Conn and Bernice Harms, both of Auburn and Arlene Carder of Tecumseh; five grandchildren, Deborah Burbach and Donald Rose, both of Lincoln; Shari Brigman of California; and Angela Thies and Danny Thies, both of North Platte; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Dan Burbach, Ron Rose, Gary Thorpe, Danny Thies, Don Huddart, Kenneth Harms, Gary Ratliff, Ed Smith, Ron Schriner, Duane Huddart, David Ringler and Richard Conn. Susan Hogrefe was organist.

Casey Witzenburg Funeral Home in Auburn was in charge of arrangements.
