SERVICES FOR FORMER BLAIR MAN WERE JANUARY 16

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 16 for Calvin M. Thompson at St. Paul, Nebraska. Reverend Father Robert Rooney officiated. He was 53 years of age at the time of his death January 13 at Veterans Hospital in Grand Island. He had been in ailing health since July of this year.

Calvin Marlin Thompson was born at Herman, Nebraska, on September 14, 1923, the son of Earl and Emma (Anderson) Thompson. He grew to manhood in Herman. In 1943, he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Pacific Theatre until his discharge in 1946. He then returned to Blair where he farmed.

He married Miss Margaret Blaha on November 24, 1948, and they farmed near Blair until 1959 when they moved to a farm northwest of St. Paul. In 1974, they moved to St. Paul.

He was a member of the American Legion Carl Mogensen Post 119 at St. Paul.

His parents, two infant brothers and a granddaughter, Hope Thompson, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife Margaret; a daughter Mrs. Charles (Charlene) Schmid; two sons, James and Edward, all of St. Paul; two brothers, Earl W. and Carroll Thompson, both of Blair; three sisters, Mrs. Annie Breithaupt; Mrs. Herman (Meta) Matzen; and Mrs. Daisy Williby, all of Blair; four grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers for the services were Alvin Dvorak, Leo Blaha, Ernest Sidel, Pat Shaughnessy, and Edward and Paul Koperski.

Military services were held at the SS. Peter and Paul cemetery. A rosary was recited on the Saturday preceding the funeral.
