He had been as well as usual during the day and went to bed as usual. When Mr. Moore got ready to go to bed he went into Jim’s room to see how he was and found him dead. Blair Democrat 22 Aug 1912

“Uncle” Jimmy Moore died very suddenly at the home of his brother, John A., in this city Wednesday morning, and at the time of going to press no funeral arrangements had been made. Since 1978, when his wife died, he had made his home with his brother and was quite a familiar figure to the Blair people. He was an old soldier, having enlisted in Co. C, 20th Ia. Inf., in September, 1862, and served until the close of the war. During the seize of Vicksburg he suffered a concussion of the brain from the explosives and for the past fourty-four years has been mentally afflicted, of late years needing constant attention. He was born in Montgomery county, Ohio, June 20, 1839, and at the time of his death was 73 years and two months old. He was married in 1867 to Miss Kate Moody, and was the father of five children, four of whom are dead. A son, Jas. B., jr., lives at Boone, Neb. He is survived by three brothers, John A. of this city, Jake R. of Vancouver, Wash., and Samuel H. of Climax Springs, Mo.
