RITES FOR THOMPSON SPOKEN MONDAY

Funeral services for Edward W. Thompson were held Monday, June 18, at the First United Methodist Church in Blair. Rev. Carl Schattauer and Dr. Gordon Patterson presided, with Ted Ford and Janet Brooks singing, accompanied by organist Bette Kirk.

Thompson, a farmer for several years in the Blair area, was buried Monday at the Blair Cemetery. He was 68.

Survivors include his wife Viva Allen Thompson of 2159 Wright, Blair; children, William E. Thompson of Kennard; Gail Thompson Buchanan of Omaha; sister Mrs. Frances Swanson of Omaha; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents William Elijah and Ada Blankenbeckler Thompson and two infants, Joan Carol and Daniel Allen Thompson.

Thompson was a veteran of World War II from 1943 to 1946. He was employed by the Blair Post Office from 1963 to 1978. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Blair Eagles, VFW Post 1251, and American Legion Post 40 et 8.

Honorary pallbearers for the services were Gus Nelson, Wayne Steinbaugh, Henry Kroeger, Roy Rosenbaum, Walt Nieman, and Gene Saville. Pallbearers were Todd Buchanan, Jeff Buchanan, Bruce Allen, Clayton Johnson, Tom Polen and Stanley Olson.

Memorials may be made to the Blair Community Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
