Funeral services for Howard D. Thompson, 76 of Blair who died at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha Tuesday, January 23, 1990 will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 26 at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Rev. James McBride will officiate. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

A Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 25 at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home with a prayer service to follow.

Howard D. Thompson was born May 7, 1913 at Blair to Daniel and Mollie Blankenbeckler Thompson. He attended McCarthy School and graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

Upon graduation from college, he taught for two years at March School. Prior to his serving in the Navy during World War II, he was employed with the Agricultural Stabilization Service. After his discharge from the military, he engaged in farming on the Thompson homestead. In 1963, he founded the Howard D. Thompson Agency and was active in the business until his death.

He has been an active member of the community. He served on the McCarthy School Board, the Washington County Planning Commission and the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home Board of Directors. He was secretary-treasurer of the Blair Rural Fire District.

In addition, he was a member of the Blair Lions Club, Blair Fraternal Order of Eagles, Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Blair Masonic Lodge and First Lutheran Church. He was a past president of the Mo Ri Shrine and a lifetime member of the Blair American Legion. He was also a member of numerous professional organizations associated with the insurance and real estate business.

He married Ruth Jessen on June 22, 1947 in Omaha. She survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Other survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Douglas Lash, Blair, and Janis and Robert Vinton of Blair; two sons and daughters-in-law, H. Dan and Kristie Thompson, Blair and Dr. Greg and Dr. Diane Thompson of West Chester, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; one brother, Earl J. Thompson of Blair; and one sister, Ruie (Mrs. Lawrence) Cook, Arlington.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the services.
