IRENE A. THOMPSON, 85

Irene A. Thompson, 85, of Blair, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, in the emergency room at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the First Baptist Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Irene A. Thompson was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Blair to Merton and Etta (Nielsen) Winchell. She graduated from Blair High School with the Class of 1936.

She married Kenneth Thompson in Omaha on Aug. 4, 1943. The couple farmed northwest of Herman for 41 years before moving north of Blair four years ago.

Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Herman Legion Auxiliary and the church quilting club in Herman. She enjoyed crocheting and making afghans.

She was an “all-around hard-working farm wife” and was the family caregiver. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, of rural Blair; three daughters, Rita Latoza and Darlene Westphalen, both of Omaha, and Ellen Snell of Elkhorn; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jon.
