Funeral Service Held April 18 for Mrs. Melvin Moore

Laura Frances Poole was born February 3, 1881 to Henry and Emma Poole in the little country community of Admah, west of Herman, Nebr. She died April 16, 1963 at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 13 days.

Her mother died within one year of her birth and she was left in the care of her father and an aunt. This family lived in Oakland, Nebr. and later lived near Nashville, Nebr.

At the age of 17, she assumed the responsibility of raising a young cousin, Lena Mae Poole.

On July 26, 1904, she and Melvin B. Moore were united in marriage and to this marriage came six children. The first one, Horace, died at the age of 1 ½ years. Melvin and Laura Moore lived all their married lives in and near Tekamah.

On November 11, 1906, she was baptized and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Tekamah, where her husband was already a member. Here her membership remained the rest of her life. For years she was an active member of the Busy Bees, later know as the Ladies Aid.

She was taken seriously ill on October 10, 1962, and died at the Crowell Memorial Home in Blair, Nebr., April 16, 1963.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin and five children; Theresa and Gladys of Omaha, Frank and Rex of Tekamah and Hazel of Houston, Tex. Also surviving is the afore-mentioned cousin, Lena Mae Poole of Fremont, other relatives and many friends.

She was a remarkable wife and mother, unfailingly kind and unselfish. She has left a golden treasury of memories to those in whom she instilled the principles of Christian faith.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 18, from the Hamel and Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Oliver Enersen officiating. The Rev. Robert Peterson of Lincoln gave the sermon.

Kermit Goll of Blair sang “Jesus Savior Pilot Me” and “Abide with Me.” Mrs. Helen Hume was at the piano.

Burial was in the Tekamah Cemetery. Pallbearers were Howard Hovendick, John Hovendick, Jack Hovendick, George Method, Jack Moore and Richard Gilliam.
