Former Washington County resident DeLoyd W. Moore Sr., 70, of Woodbine, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine.

DeLoyd Wayne Moore Sr. was born May 1, 1932, in Soldier, Iowa, to Don and Irene (Androy) Moore. He grew up in the Moorhead, Iowa, area and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1950. He attended evening classes to obtain a Third Grade Stationary Engineer degree.

On Dec. 30, 1952, he married Mary Jo Evers of Magnolia, Iowa. The couple lived in the Moorhead, Logan and Woodbine, Iowa, and Fort Calhoun areas. Mr. Moore was employed at the elevator in Logan, the hardware store in Ralston, St. Cecilia’s Cathedral in Omaha, and as maintenance director of Memorial Community Hospital in Blair for 19 ½ years. He retired from the hospital.

He was baptized on Dec. 16, 2001. For many years, Mr. Moore served as a Boy Scout leader and a City Park board member in Fort Calhoun. He was a life- time member of the Blair Optimist Club.

He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and grandfather. He enjoyed family, traveling with his wife, “Jo,” fishing at the cabin at Lake Ericson, hunting and card playing.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Mary Jo Moore of Woodbine; son, DeLoyd Wayne Moore Jr. of Bellevue; two daughters, Patty Robertson and Larry Alexander, and Judy Schmit and husband, John, all of Fort Calhoun; 11 grandchildren; mother, Irene Bollinger of Woodbine; brother and sister-in-law, Gale “Gus” and Past Moore of Gretna; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Chester and Tony Caddell of Logan, Joanne Evers of Little Sioux, Iowa, John and Fran Evers of Burnsville, Minn., Bill and Dan Sillau of Marcus, Iowa, Bob and Rae Mullen of Atlantic, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather, Fred Bollinger, and brother-in-law, Marvin Evers.

Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine was in charge of arrangements.
