JAMES C. THOMPSON, 93

James C. Thompson, 93, of Blair, died Monday, July 27, 1998, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday, July 30, at the Blair United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nancy Flader and the Rev. A. K. Saul officiating. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

James Claude Thompson was born May 20, 1905, in Millerboro to Fred and Carrie (Byers) Thompson.

He graduated from the Winner High School in Winner, S. D. He received his bachelor of science degree from Nebraska Wesleyan and his master’s degree from Colorado State College of Education.

He began teaching in Pawnee City. He was a business teacher at Blair High School and was honored for 39 years of service. He was principal from 1940 to 1955. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Blair Schools in 1944.

During the summers, he worked for the Nebraska Crop Improvement Association for 29 years.

He was a member and treasurer of the United Methodist Church and a member of the Methodist Men’s Club. A lifetime member of the Blair Lions Club, he was treasurer for 37 years and was honored by the Lions Club International Foundation as a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award in 1994.

He was a Marathon Duplicate and Party Bridge player. He was a member of the Blair Golf Course and club champion in 1940.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Sharon of Blair; grandchildren, Paula and Mike Betzold of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and Steve and Julie Thompson of Dallas, Texas; great-grandson, Joshua Thompson of Dallas; one sister, Marguerite Raitt of San Leandro, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae, and his parents.

Memorials are suggested to the Blair Community Schools Foundation for student scholarship.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair was in charge of arrangements.
