ANOTHER BLAIR PIONEER GONE

Pioneer residents of Blair will remember Jared Thompson, one of the first settlers in the city, coming here with the Rosas, E. D. and Burtis Rosa, who built the large two-story frame building on the corner, where Karl Peterson’s store now stands, and engaged in merchandizing and were the leading merchants of the town in its earliest day. Jared Thompson and Burtis Rosa were brothers-in-law and owned and occupied the property where C. T. Farnham now lives for many years. They were considered old people in those days and were much respected. The older son, mentioned in the following notice, never lived here but Isaac Thompson and Mrs. Tom Heck grew up and married here, Isaac working at his trade as printer here for many years and at one time he and Tom Heck, also an old-time printer here, published the old Blair Times.

The following notice is taken from the Long Pine Press, Tom Heck having resided there for many years:

AT REST

“Mrs. Mary J. Thompson, mother of Mrs. T. S. Heck, died at the home of her daughter Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Thompson was born in Preble, Cortland county, N. Y., October 6, 1825, and died June 25, 1913, aged 87 years, 8 months and 19 days. She came to Long Pine with her husband in May, 1884. She leaves two sons and one daughter to mourn her loss: Merritt Thompson of Ruck, Oregon, Isaac Thompson of St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. T. S. Heck of Long Pine.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wells and body laid at rest this afternoon in Grandview Cemetery.”
