Services Held For Harry F. Mordhorst

Harry F. Mordhorst, 61, of Yankton, South Dakota, passed away on Friday, March 2, 1984 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 6, 1984 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton with the Rev. James K. Schwartz officiating. Burial was in the Yankton Cemetery with military graveside rites by Ernest Bowyer Post No. 791, V.F.W., Yankton. A prayer service was held at the Ray Funeral Chapel on Monday evening.

Mr. Mordhorst was born on January 8, 1923, in Blair, Nebraska to Peter and Margaret (Kroeger) Mordhorst. He grew up in Bennington, Nebraska and graduated from high school there. He attended Purdue University and served in the U.S. Navy for three years.

He married Jane Pflugshaupt on June 3, 1951 in Omaha, Nebraska. After their marriage, they moved to Yankton where he was employed as a sales representative for Baum Iron Company and Paxton-Gallagher Steel of Omaha. He purchased a hardware store in Yankton in 1956 and operated it until 1964. Since then, he was employed as purchasing agent for Morgen Manufacturing Company in Yankton.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on several church committees. He, also, was a member of the American Legion, Elks Club and a past member of the Yankton Kiwanis.

Survivors are his wife, Jane of Yankton; one son, Jeffery Harry and his wife, Kim of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one daughter, Pamela Ann, of Marshall, Minnesota; two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Anita) Miller of Alameda, California and Mrs. Esther Underwood of Chula Vista, California; two brothers Herman and John of Omaha, Nebraska; nieces and nephews; and, his father and mother-in-law, Ben and Edith Pflugshaupt of Yankton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Margaret Riecken.

Memorials have been established in Mr. Mordhorst’s name with Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Cancer Society.
