Former Countian Is Buried In Wyoming

Funeral services were held Monday, June 13, at First Baptist Church in Moorcroft, Wyoming, for Alfreda Myrtle Morgan, 88, who died June 8, 1983, at her home in Moorcroft.

The Rev. Robert Smoot officiated. Burial was in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette, Wyoming.

Alfreda Myrtle Morgan was born August 18, 1894, to Richard and Minnie Jane Bunn Deaver in Blair. She attended school in Herman where she graduated from high school in 1913.

She was a switchboard operator for Nebraska Telephone Co. for a short time after graduation. In the spring of 1914, she homesteaded next to her mother south of Gillette.

She married N. D. Morgan on December 8, 1915, and lived on the homestead several years while her husband taught rural school. In 1922 they moved to Moorcroft where her husband was hired as superintendent of the Moorcroft Schools. In 1924, they moved to Gillette where he was superintendent of the Gillette Schools for 26 years. During this time, she taught piano lessons and was active as a member of the First Baptist Church of Moorcroft and The Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, in 1977; one son; two daughters; and two brothers.

She is survived by six sons, William J. Morgan of Brownsburg, Indiana, Norvin D. Morgan of Moorcroft, James A., John C., Richard E., and Marshall J. Morgan, all of Gillette; and six daughters, Darleen H. Smith of Moorcroft, Harriette L. Brown of cave Creek, Arizona, Jane Cowan of Basin, Wyoming, Joanne McGuire of Gillette, Patti Purcelli of Newcastle and Mary Newman of Worland, Wyoming. Other survivors include a half-brother, Richard Deaver of Omaha; a half-sister, Maxine Larson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 50 grandchildren; and 58 great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established to Pioneer Manor Nursing Home.

Noecker Funeral Home Chapel in Gillette was in charge of arrangements.
