Blair native Helen R. “Pat” Barta, 76, of Elkhorn, died Aug. 15, 2004, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.

Funeral services were Aug. 19, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn. Interment was in the Blair Cemetery.

Helen Ruth Barta was born June 14, 1928, in Blair to J. William and Anna May (Monke) Blatter. She grew up in Blair and graduated from Blair High School in 1946.

While working for the Soil Conservation Service in Blair, she met Roy Barta. They married Nov. 8, 1950, in Storm Lake, Iowa. The couple lived in Blair until 1953, and then moved to Dakota City. In 1963 they moved to Elkhorn.

Mrs. Barta attended Bethany Lutheran Church, where she volunteered, and participated in Bible study and prayer. She was involved in community organizations such as Grange, Women’s Club, and Eagles and was a great supporter to her husband’s involvement in the community. She enjoyed being a homemaker, including cooking and sewing. Her family was her passion and her career.

Special family memories include trips throughout the U.S. and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed family gatherings at area restaurants, such as the Bohemian Cafe and Circle B Bar. Her family remembers her as a woman of few words, but a lot of grace, with a smile that would light up a room. She loved her family and friends and was “a true living angel.”
