Jennie J. Nelson, 97

Jennie J. Nelson, 97 of Blair, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at Crowell Memorial Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 12, at the Congregational Church (UCC) in Blair. A private interment will follow at the Blair Cemetery.

Jennie Joy (Fellows) Nelson was born in Mills County, Iowa, to Milo and Flora (Allely) Fellows. She was baptized at the age of 13 in the Strahan Methodist Church.

She attended the Strahan Consolidated School, where she participated in vocal music and basketball, and graduated in 1927.

In 1931, she graduated from Lord Lister Hospital School of Nursing and became a registered nurse. In 1965, she graduated from Dana College with a B.S.N.

On Sept, 1, 1937, she married Albae H. Nelson in Glenwood, Iowa. They lived for three years in Bristol, Va., before returning to Blair in 1940.

Over the years, Mrs. Nelson had varied experiences in her nursing career. She worked as a supervisor in a hospital in Bristol, was superintendent at the Dodge County Hospital, as a nurse stewardess on the Union Pacific, and she retired after 29 years as a school nurse in Blair.

She was a member of the Congregational Church; D.A.R., Order of the Eastern Star (past Matron), M.A.C., honorary life member of the original Memorial Community Hospital Board, where she served as its secretary for three years.

She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Audrey Windolph of Casper, Wyo., and Judy and Tim Peterson of Vancouver, Wash.; eight grandchildren; sister, Frieda Violet Nelson of Pasadena, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albae; two sisters and four brothers.

Memorials are suggested to the Congregational Church of Blair or Memorial Community Hospital.
