John W. Nelson, 73

Graveside services were Friday, October 27 at Palestine Cemetery for John William Nelson, 73 of Albany, Oregon, who died October 24, 1995 at his home.

John William Nelson was born in Beaver County, Oklahoma December 15, 1921 to William and Vina Potter Nelson.

He served in the Army during World War II and received the Bronze Star for his participation in the invasion of Normandy.

He was a plumber and had worked at Oregon State University.

He helped start Little League baseball in Salem and served two terms as president of the Hoover School Parent-Teacher Association. He was a troop leader for the Boy Scouts.

He married M. Louise Hitchcock on August 10, 1957 in Ratone, New Mexico. They lived in Liberal, Kansas until 1964 when they moved to Silverton, Oregon. They lived in Salem, Oregon before moving to Albany in 1975.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise August 1, 1987; a brother, Andy Moris and a sister, Della Ross.

He is survived by daughters, Pam Realph of Blair and Marci Lynn Nelson of Salem; sons, William and John M. both of Albany; a brother, Albert Moris of Fresno, California; a sister, Marguerite Pribble of Balko, Oklahoma and 11 grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to Special Olympics.

Fisher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
