Services Held On Wednesday For Julia Nelson

Funeral services for Julia A. Nelson, 91, were held Wednesday, April 9, at the First Covenant Church in Oakland. Mrs. Nelson died Sunday April 6, 1980, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Rev. Loran Pressley and Rev. Morland Adell officiated at the services. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery.

Julia August Anderson was born August 1, 1888, on the farm homestead in Cuming County seven miles west of Oakland to early pioneers John Peter and Anna Gustava Anderson, nee Swenson. She was one of nine children.

She attended Salem Mission Church and was a member of the first confirmation class of the church. She later transferred her membership to the church in Oakland and kept her interest in the church until her death.

On September 25, 1912, she married Gust W. Nelson. They had interests in the Lindahl Mercantile Co., Star Mercantile Co., Larson and Nelson, and Nelson’s Groceteria. She worked with her husband in the business community and they celebrated 50 years in the business community just prior to Gust’s death on June 6, 1960.

She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and WCTU. She was an officer several times of the Covenant Ladies Aid Society, a charter member and officer of the Covenant Women’s Auxiliary, a deaconess and choir member of the Covenant Church.

She moved to Blair from the Oakland area in 1972 and had been living at Crowell Home for the past eight years.

She is survived by four sons, G. Vincent Nelson, Lincoln; J. Emery Nelson, Blair; Lester “Gust” Nelson, Blair; and Merlin W. “Curly” Nelson of Oakland. Daughters-in-law, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren also survive her.

Palmquist Funeral Home in Oakland was in charge of arrangements for the services.
