NEWELL THORNBURGH DIES IN WICHITA

Services for Newell Thornburgh, age 83, of Wichita, KS, and formerly of Blair, will be held Friday, July 22, at First United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. with burial in the Blair Cemetery.

She died July 19 in Wichita. She had been living there with a daughter after a lingering illness.

She was born November 17, 1904, in Harrison County, IA to Jacob A. and Harriett Newell Thomas Hillman. On October 23, 1922, she married G. Carroll Thornburgh in Blair. Together they ran Carroll’s Grocery Store from 1932 – 1946. They then operated a paint and appliance store until retiring in 1964.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Welcome Rebecca Lodge.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Linda) Brunk, Fremont; and Mrs. Raymond (Alma) Vanskiver, of Wichita; one son, George of Corvalis, OR; and 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. George Nelson of Millard and Mrs. Raymond Vineyard of Los Angeles, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, and one brother.
