LARS O. THORSEN

Services for Lars O. Thorsen, 77, Blair, were held at 10 a.m., Monday, December 29, at First Lutheran Church, Blair. Thorsen died December 24 at Memorial Community Hospital, Blair. Rev. James McBride and Rev. Carl Schattauer officiated.

Thorsen was born June 7, 1909, in Flosta, Norway, to Thor and Thora Thorsen. On January 1, 1937, he married Hanna Aleksia Wroldsen in Flosta.

Thorsen immigrated to the United States from Norway in 1928.

He began working for the Moran Towing and Transportation Company in New York City as a docking pilot. He worked for the company for 43 years, attaining the position of captain.

He was a member of the Masons in New York since 1944.

He retired from the Moran Towing Company in 1972, and moved to Blair with his wife Tutta in 1976.

He was an active member of the First Lutheran Church, joining the week after he moved to Blair. Thorsen served on the church council, stewardship committee, and was a member of the men’s breakfast groups, the In-Between Club, and served as head cook for the Easter breakfast.

He was also a member of the Danish Brotherhood.

Interment was in the Blair Cemetery. A prayer service was held at 7 p.m., Sunday, December 28.

Pallbearers were Kristian Olsen; Karl Olsen; Chuck Mahaffey; Roy Olsen; Scott Abrahamsen; and Richard Waite. Organist was Clare Cowing.

Thorsen is survived by wife Tutta; and children, Thorun Olsen, Nashville, Tennessee; Berit Abrahamsen, Plano, Texas; Irene Thorsen, Blair, and Harriet Waite, Blair; a sister, Sigrunn Johnsen, Norway; and six grandsons and one granddaughter.

Campbell Funeral Home, Blair, handled the arrangements.
