THOMPSON RITES HELD

GUS THOMPSON, 54, OF HERMAN, WOUNDED DURING WORLD WAR I

Rites for Gus Thompson, 54, of Herman, onetime Blairite, who died Febr. 11, were held at 2 p.m. last Wednesday in Tekamah, Dr. John Harbaugh of the Tekamah Baptist Church officiating. LaFrenz Post, American Legion, had charge of burial rites in Tekamah Cemetery.

Mr. Thompson was found dead at his home on the Gil Potadle farm northeast of Herman by his wife. Heart trouble is believed to have caused his death.

Mr. Thompson was born Dec. 19, 1895, and lived in Blair for 20 years.

He joined the U.S. Army on Sept. 23, 1917, when 21 years old. He took part in the Battle of Soissons in France, receiving machine gun wounds. He was awarded the victory medal of the AisneMarne campaigns. He was discharged Febr. 1, 1919, but later enlisted in the Navy for peacetime service.

Preceded in death by his parents, ______________________ by his wife, Irma; a brother, James Thompson of Crown Point, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Alta S. Thornburgh of Phelan, Calif.; and a number of nephews and nieces.
