James M. Nelson, 76, of Brush, Colo., a former resident of Washington County, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at the inpatient hospice unit at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colo.

Services were Thursday at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Brush. Military honors were given by the U.S. Air Force at the Brush Memorial Cemetery.

James M. Nelson was born Aug. 28, 1937, in Omaha, to Martin and Edith Nelson.

Jim served in the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard, retiring as a chief master sergeant in 2002.

While living in Brush for more than 40 years, Jim worked for Excel Energy, formerly known as Public Service Company.

Jim was a member of Snyder Bible Church and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union. He also was proud to be a member of AMAC, an organization that serves as the Voice of Americans over 50.

Survivors include his son: Terry Nelson of Brush; two daughters: Kimberlee Percy of Henderson, Nev., and Jamy Nelson of Athens, Ill.; one brother, Jack of Issaquah, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie; one son, Jerry; and one daughter, Frances.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the Jim Nelson Memorial Fund c/o Heer Mortuary, 222 Cameron, Brush, CO 80723.
